F451, PART 2--A, allusions in The Sieve and the Sand

Please choose one allusion from your list of allusions in Bradbury's work that relates to Part 2, The Sieve and the Sand. In your post, you must first include the allusion with quotes around the allusion. Then, you must discuss how it relates to what happens and what the allusion is referencing in Fahrenheit 451. For some allusions, the blurb on the handout is inadequate, so you may want to complete a quick Google search to better familiarize yourself with the reference. You may choose ANY allusion you want---even if someone else in the class has already chosen it.

I will be scoring your posts on insight, development, and proper use of the English language. Please do your best....and when you are finished with this assignment, F451, PART 2--B awaits you below.

:) Mrs. A.

  1. "Truth will come to light, murder will not be hid long!" This is so true because the truth will be found in everything that happens. So no matter what coming clean and telling the truth is the best idea. If you don't then you will pay when the truth is found. In the book Montag is doing crimes and thinks that he is going to get away, but he doesn't know that no matter what the truth will be found. When the truth is found then Montag will be in a lot of trouble.

  2. "Pigeon-winged books" I chose this allusion, because at the begining of the second part of Sieve and the Sand Montag and Mildred were reading books, and learning. While I was reading this part I thought for sure something strangely weird would happen. Just like the allusion Pigeon-winged books I thought that the books that they were reading would magically come to life just like the allusion I had chosen.

  3. "Truth will come to light, murder will not hid long!" I think this is true because the truth is found out someway, or somehow in any lie you tell or say. Saying the truth in the first place is the best way to go, you wont have to make a fool or yourself in the end. And if you don't go with the truth and tell the lie, then in the end you will have to pay your price. In the story Guy and Faber are doing "crimes" and they think that by having there "plan" that they will get away with it, but the truth always comes out eventually.

  4. "Truth will come to light, murder will not be hid long!" I chose this allusion because Montag has been doing crimes and he thinks he will get away with it without anybody finding out. It is best to tell the truth in the first place because if you don't tell the truth and people find out the truth later you would be in more trouble for not telling the truth in the first place.

  5. "Half out of the cave." I believe that this allusion refers to how Guy knows only a little of the truth about the world that the government has tried to Completely hide. Guy is seeking to know more about everything and continues asking questions and finding himself thinking defiantly every day. Now that he has met the professor it will be some what easer for him to explore what he has learned and to also learn more.

  6. "Truth will come to light, murder will not be hid long!" This relates to part two since, Montag has been hiding things from everybody for a while, but eventually the truth will come out and, somebody will find out what e has been doing this whole time. He, most likely, wont get away with the crimes he has committed. People aren't going to just brush off the crimes that Montag has committed just because of his job, that actually makes things worse.

  7. "The salamander devours its tail" In the book, this reference is talking about how the "salamander" will destroy itself, the salamander being the decaying society that will soon go at war, eventually destroying itself. In the actual reference is tells that the destructive force will eventually destroy itself.

  8. "The Salamander devours its tail" I think this is a good example on how Montag is going to try to break the firemen apart. When the firemen get the truth and facts about the books and the past they will devour themselves and hopfully stop doing what they are doing.

  9. "The salamander devours its tail". I chose this allusion because it demonstrates the society that Montag is living in and how it is going to destroy itself in the end if it is not fixed. Also, when the firemen learn the truth they and will continue to try the truth and they will fail and be destroyed by society.

  10. "Truth is truth, to the end of reckoning." I chose this allusion because Montag has been lying and I think this quote means that after awhile the the truth always comes out, no matter what you do or what you say. Montag should stop lying and come clean with all his lies. If you lie then you have to continue lying and lying. Montag will be in a lot more trouble if he continues lying than if he just told the truth in the first place.

  11. "Truth is truth, to the end of reckoning." I choose this allusion because of the way Montag has been acting, he has been acting shading and like he has some thing to hide. If Montag continues to act like this sooner or later the truth will be shown. I believe if Montag stops doing this he will benifit more, but if he continues and when the truth does come out he will be in a lot more trouble.

  12. "That favorite subject. Myself."
That allusion fits Mildred perfectly because that really is her favorite subject. All that she cares about is herself. When Montag tries to get her to think of something other than what is on the parlor walls she can't. When he ask her if her "family" likes her she responds with what kind of question is that. If she has to remove the shells from her ears to have a conversation with Montag the shell only stay out for a matter of seconds. Mildred does not even care about Montag and all she cares about is watching the parlor walls.

  13. "Truth is, to end the reckoning" I chose this allusion because, i think that if they where able to get out the truth about the past and how book's could tell them so so much about there past, all the blank minded people would end. Montag knows that his wife is dieing, and it almost seems that she dosn't even realize. I believe if the truth came out she would most likely live.

  14. "The salamander devours its tail." I choose this allusion because it shows that this society will eventually destroy itself in the long run if it is not fixed.

  15. "Knowledge is more than equivalent to force" I chose this allusion because it shows a lot of emotion in this story. I think this says how knowledge is much stronger than force because knowledge goes farther than force does in the future.

  16. "That favorite subject. Myself.” Selfish, greedy, naive, self-centered, and self-absorbed are words that come to mind when I think about the character Mildred. She has not cared time and time again about the well being of Montag, only herself. She doesn't care that new wall for the parlor cost so much out of Montags' paycheck. She just wants another item to distract her of her surroundings. She uses the parlor, sleeping pills, and the seashells to distract her. Although all she is are doing is distancing her and Montag. They are becoming strangers. Mildred doesn't even remember how they meet and Montag wouldn't cry if Mildred die and they are supposed to be married and in love. I think the separation of Mildred and Montag is causing him to go searching for other things such as answers in books.

  17. "The Salamander devours it's tail" I chose this allusion because it matches with exactly what Faber does, along with a few other people like Mildred, ect. yes Faber goes around being nice and pleasant to Montag and everyone, the actions is what will make him end up devouring himself in the long run. Mildred not talking to Montag and being just herself will bite her in the behind eventually, I want to see where this goes towards the end of the book, I am predicting that it will not be the way everyone expects. I think this allusion also relates to montag standing on the cover of the book as newspapers, in a whole bunch of flames. Eventually everyone will devour themselves because of the mess.

  18. "The salamander devours its tail" is the allusion I chose. I chose this allusion because it makes me think of the society. In actuality, if the society doesn't start to turn things around and doesn't get fixed, I think, it will destroy itself. Something needs to be done to fix it.

  19. "Half out of the cave." I think this means that Montag is half way normal. Everyone else in the society is normal. They all know the same thing. Montag wants out, so hes getting out. First he met Clairise. She made him think. She made him realize things. The shortly after he went to a call. He went to burn down an old lady's house who freaked one him for it. She was quoting many books. This made him think even more. He thought that if books were so important to her that she would be burnt with them that there must be something amazing about them. He stole one. Now he is half way out of the cave. He is half way normal.
